This in an example of a Hotpoint washer dryer we discovered which was  on a fire risk recall. We advised the customer who contacted the manufacturer who then replaced the product in a couple of days.

London Fire Authority recently stated that there is a fire every second day in the Greater London area due to white goods.

Do you, as Duty-holder,  have any appliances under your responsibility that look like this? How do you know? Thankfully we spotted this before anyone was hurt.

As well as PAT testing your premises we can provide a short workshop to train your staff on how to do "User Checks" and more formal "Visual Inspections"

which will reduce the likelihood of this situation arising with your appliances.

Overheating

Overheating  electrical appliances can lead to fire and cause burns to users.

The thermal images of these products recently  failed from customers premises in Oxfordshire illustrate the dangers of non-compliant/fake appliances.

The USB charger was at an external temperature of 110C. The body was starting to melt and had deformed and starting to discolour.

The plug and socket is from a dishwasher.

Do you have any  overheating appliances ?

Sister Michael on Fire

We find these cube adaptors everywhere and the advice is to fail them and throw them away and replace with an extension lead.

Part of what we do is to advise customers on appliances and situations that are hazardous and to remind them to include them in their Risk assessments --which are a legal requirement for companies over 7 employees.
